RENDEZ-VOUS OF DREAMS : SURREALISM AND GERMAN ROMANTICISM from 13th June to 12th October 2025 at the Hamburg Kunsthalle

On the occasion of the centenary of the Surrealist Manifesto, the Kunsthalle Hamburg offers an encounter between the Surrealists and the German Romantics.

A selection of surrealist works by Max Ernst, Meret Oppenheim, René Magritte, Salvador Dalí, Valentine Hugo, Toyen, André Masson, and Paul Klee illustrates how – like the great poets Novalis, Achim and Bettina von Arnim, Friedrich Hölderlin, Heinrich von Kleist, and Karoline von Günderrode – the great Romantic painters such as Caspar David Friedrich (1774–1840) and Philipp Otto Runge (1777–1810) played a role in the surrealist search for a new revolutionary art in the 20th century. Works by Jacqueline Lamba will be presented there.
